Master's & Doctorate Programs with Environmental Sustainability Curriculi
Prospective graduate students can choose from a vast number of environmental sustainability Master's and Doctoral Programs available through multiple schools and colleges at the University of Michigan (U-M), most of which also offer dual degrees and self-initiated programs. Please read below for highlights.
- Taubman College of Architecture & Urban Planning. This college offers a wide range of Master's and Doctoral programs—all of which have a mission to help improve the human condition through thoughtful design and planning for the built environment.
- Stephen M. Ross School of Business: This includes the Erb Program in Global Sustainable Enterprise, a joint program with the School of Natural Resources & Environment.
- Michigan School of Engineering: This school offers 20 different graduate study areas, including Aerospace, Oceanic, and Space Sciences; Civil and Environmental Engineering; Industrial and Operations Engineering; Automotive Engineering; Program in Manufacturing, and multiple others that have distinct correlations with environmental sustainability.
- Rackham Graduate School: More than 7,000 students are enrolled in Rackham’s 104 doctoral and 90 master’s programs within multiple schools and colleges of the university.
- Michigan School of Law: In addition to a three-year Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, the Law School offers four graduate degree options (four on the master's level and one on the doctorate level). All of these programs are designed to let students tailor their program with their personal interest areas and career objectives. Environmental law is no exception.
- School of Natural Resources & the Environment (SNRE): This school is rich in graduate degree programs on both the master's and doctorate levels. Study areas include: Aquatic Sciences; Behavior, Education and Communication; Conservation Biology; Environmental Informatics; Environmental Justice; Environmental Policy and Planning; Sustainable Systems; Terrestrial Ecosystems; Landscape Architecture.
- School of Public Health (SPH) : This school offers five distinct graduate programs, including one in Environmental Health Sciences which, among other things, investigates environmental quality and health issues.
The Graham Institute also offers a Graduate Fellowship Program to help support exceptional doctoral candidates from these or other graduate programs at the university.
