Graham Institute Programs

Meaningful progress toward environmental sustainability depends a great deal on educated, talented, conscientious, and well-rounded individuals.

With this in mind, the University of Michigan (U-M) offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate educational programs to help cultivate the multi-disciplinary knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to address complex environmental sustainability issues. The Graham Environmental Sustainability Institute helps to advance these educational initiatives in a variety ways of ways and on all academic levels.

For undergraduate students, the Graham Scholars Program provides field-based courses that challenge students to develop multi-disciplinary solutions to multi-faceted environmental sustainability issues. For graduate students, the Graham Institute provides incentive programs and scholarships to encourage further learning and innovation in sustainability-related areas. And for doctoral candidates, the Graham Fellows Program provides the funding necessary for pursuing important research. It also gives Ph.D. students an interdisciplinary “community of scholars” with whom to collaborate, interact, and expand their perspectives. Complex environmental sustainability issues take complex solutions to address. The University of Michigan and the Graham Institute are committed to preparing today’s students to be responsible environmental-sustainability leaders in the years to come.
