The Graham Environmental Sustainability Institute (GESI) is pleased to announce the first round of requests of applications for student fellowships and research seed funding. These programs, described in more detail below and in the attached documents, will provide up to $570,000 this coming academic year (2006-2007) to support and promote cutting-edge research performed by both faculty and graduate students. This level of support is planned to increase to $1,140,000 in the following academic year.
Specifically, GESI, through its Environmental Sustainability Fellowship Program (ESFP) will award up to 6 fellowships a year to recruit, retain and encourage high-caliber doctoral students to pursue careers in areas integral to environmental sustainability. These fellowships are intended to be used for graduate student stipends and tuition costs and will provide $25,000/year for two years. These awards are contingent on additional support from the student’s home department(s) and/or faculty advisor(s) increasing the level of support to the equivalent of a 50% GSRA appointment. The deadline for applications is July 20, 2006 with announcements scheduled for September 1, 2006.
Furthermore, GESI, through its Environmental Sustainability Multidisciplinary Research Team Program (ESMRT), will support up to 6 grants a year to encourage faculty members to collaborate on innovative sustainability research. These awards are expected to average $70,000/year for 2 years, with a maximum level of support of $100,000/year. The deadline for proposals is September 15, 2006, with award announcements scheduled for December 15, 2006.
