Professor Steve Wright Uses Opportunity for Graham Scholars Program
ANN ARBOR, Mich., October 18, 2007--
Steve Wright, the Arthur F. Thurnau Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, was named a Fulbright Scholar and will spend the better part of 2008 in Concepcion, Chile. Wright was among two U-M researchers granted this prestigious honor.
Wright will use his connections at the University of Concepcion to share this experience (to study Chilean hydroelectric power options) with U-M students. Wright, along with Assistant Research Scientist Sara Adlerstein Gonzalez (School of Natural Resources and Environment) will use this opportunity to teach the first course in the Graham Scholars Program.
This course, titled Sustainable Energy Development in South America, will be taught at U-M during the Winter 2008 and will will allow students to travel to Chile (during Winter break) to visit potential hydroelectric sites. Students were selected, through a competitive process, from a variety of majors and minors to bring a multidisciplinary approach to the study of this multifaceted topic.
