CAMBRIDGE, Mass., January 28, 2008--
Three Graham Fellows were invited to present posters at the 2008 Alliance for Global Sustainability Meeting, hosted by MIT.
Shanna Shaked, a Ph.D. Candidate in the U-M Applied Physics program, won the 'Best Poster Award' representing her research on "Local and Long-Range Health Impacts of Global Trade: A Textile Case Study Using Life Cycle Assessment." (To see full poster, click image at left.)
In recognition of her achievement, Shaked was allowed to make a donation to Oxfam International. She chose a donation that would give a village a native seed bank to ensure a bounty of seeds for the next planting season - to ensure that traditional seed varieties are not lost.
Andrew Bell and Jo-Yu Chin were also invited to show posters at this conference titled "Designing Pathways for a Sustainable World: at Scale, in Time, and for All."
