"Urban-Rural Connections: Sustainability in a Volatile World"

A diverse mix of public officials, city planners, faculty members, non-profit representatives, researchers, and public citizens participated in this collaborative "Urban-Rural Connections" Conference at the Rackham Building on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The workshop-like event encompassed presentations, panel discussions, interactive dialogs, and break-out case-study sessions. Together, registrants brainstormed solutions to municipal sustainability challenges.

"Water, Health, & the Environment: Establishing the Research Agenda"

That was the topic of the Graham Institute's inaugural conference (March 26-27, 2008), which focused on identifying research needs and opportunities concerning water, human health, and the environment. More than 150 people attended the event, including representatives from NSF International, the U.S. EPA, the Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory, the United Nations University, and others. The conference helped to expand the University of Michigan's position as a global leader in research about the relationship between health and water. It also generated multiple related White Papers and Research Abstracts on this important subject matter.
